Wirebox out supporting Motability Scheme Live

There is nothing quite like the feeling of watching your code come to life in the real world.

As software developers, we spend months staring at screens, building logic and predicting user behaviour in controlled environments. However, the real test happens when you step out of the office and onto the floor of a major live exhibition…And that was the vibe when we recently attended Motability Scheme Live to see the fruits of the digital infrastructure we built IRL. Partnering with the award-winning events agency Rapiergroup, we had developed a complete digital ecosystem to streamline their attendee journey, and it’s incredible to see the result of our labours being used by so many people.

Digital hub in action

The foundation of our solution was a centralised backend built on Laravel, designed to act as the single source of truth for the entire event series. Instead of event data being scattered across different platforms, everything from vehicle specifications to vendor listings was managed from one central hub. And in real time, we saw how that digital architectural choice translates into a flawless user experience. Visitors used the native Apple and Android apps we developed, seamlessly filtering through vehicle options and using the dynamic, live-populated map to navigate the massive space. Every piece of data they interacted with was being pushed dynamically, and seeing thousands of people effortlessly finding what they needed was a massive validation of platform stability.

Powering high-volume test drive experiences

Motability Scheme Live is designed to give visitors hands-on experience of the latest vehicles available through the Scheme, from standard cars to WAVs, with expert guidance and the opportunity to test drive in a safe, accessible environment.

At its core, the experience is about getting as many people as possible behind the wheel. But delivering that at scale brings operational complexity, with essential processes like driving licence checks and legal declarations creating potential friction points.

The result is a system that performs under live event pressure, keeps queues moving, and significantly increases test drive throughput — helping more visitors make informed decisions about the right vehicle for them.

Live observation

Even though it’s been a couple of years since we first built this solution, attending the event in person is a good reminder of why user-centric design matters. You can look at analytics dashboards and server logs all day, but nothing replaces the insight gained from watching a real person interact with your design in a noisy, distracting environment. It’s incredibly fulfilling. And by replacing disjointed legacy systems with a robust Laravel core, we didn’t just deliver a secure platform for the organisers, we genuinely enhanced their event experience for thousands of visitors. And seeing those results live on the day is one of the many reasons we love what we do.
