Skydive for KidneyCare
After onboarding KidneyCare as a client in June 2019, I got to know the charity better as their main account manager and decided to support their cause. I could see that their teams were devoted to helping kidney patients and supporting them throughout their journeys which really resonated with me.
I’m not much of a runner, so the 5k runs didn’t really appeal to me. However, I am quite an adrenaline junky, so when I saw that KidneyCare were doing a sponsored SkyDive, I jumped
at the chance (no pun intended). I spoke to the Wirebox management team about the idea and from the start they were behind me.
I remember the day so clearly, it was quite cloudy and overcast. It was also my Mother in Law’s birthday (sorry Mum!). We arrived at the Brackley dropzone about an hour and half before I had to be registered, weighed and ready for my SkyDive, I was also joined by John & Eddie who decided to come and watch.
We went through the briefing, the do’s and the don’ts and I started to get a little nervous, watching others coming down and landing after their parachute session. Then my name was called and I was asked to get on the plane. No turning back now. On the way up, talking to others who were jumping, it was a lady’s 90th birthday and she had always wanted to jump out of a plane, so we all sang happy birthday!
We finally got to 10,000 ft and the door was opened. A few seconds later, the light went green and people began their jumps. I remember sitting at the door, with my legs hanging out, my skydive instructor counting down and we were gone. Free falling towards a layer of cloud, the wind rushing by as we get closer and closer to the clouds. After about 15 seconds the instructor pulled the parachute and it felt like we were suspended in the air, slowly drifting towards the ground with spectacular views! If you haven’t done it before, I would highly recommend it!
I managed to raise £350 for KidneyCareUK which I am really proud of as it is the most I’ve ever raised for charity! Thank you everyone for your donations!
