we create value for our clients
Middlesex University main hub is located in Hendon, North London has a personalised approach to learning and research. The University is focused on doing and experience, providing students with the skills for life to stay ahead in a changing World. The University has a student body of over 19,000 in London and over 37,000 globally – with Campuses in Dubai, Mauritius and Malta.
Why Wirebox?
Middlesex University were looking to launch a portal for their experts within their Campuses to provide research and thought provoking news to be made publicly available in an online hub.
With their experts situated in multiple different locations, the Hub would need to be deployed with minimal training and allow the University to deploy content quickly and easily. All of the content on the hub was to be delivered by authors who work with Middlesex University directly or in partnership in some capacity, thus providing highly relevant and targeting thoughts.
Our Approach
Wirebox met with Nina Innocenti (Project Manager) and several members of the MDX Minds team at the head campus in Hendon, London. Taking a consultative approach and an open mind, we gathered a strong understanding of the needs, the reasoning and the technology that the team were experienced with.
An understanding of the topics led to understanding the categorisation required – it was also then understood what features would be required to make this a success.
The Project Included:
- Scoping session to document requirements including all the features and benefits
- Wireframing the proposed structure of the platform
- Proposal and agreement of proposed framework and CMS to be utilised
- Creative yet simplistic design and branding in keeping with Middlesex University brand guidelines
Outcomes
Wirebox developed the solution using the World’s most popular CMS – WordPress. WordPress is an Open Source solution which can be customised and developed upon, to fit almost all requirements. Features of MDX Minds allowed all authors editor access to the back end which allowed them to create news, articles and inspiring stories.
Seven different categories were created all relevant to the students including Science & Technology, Law & Politics & Business economics. Content which was important to the Editor of MDXMinds was able to be pinned to be displayed prominently on the home page. Whilst each subject matter had its own landing page, an introduction to the top stories per subject also ran through a carousel on its own placement on the home page.
Interaction to all major social channels to allow visitors to share posts via their own social channels was made available, as was the automation of displaying the most read posts.
Our Approach Delivered:
- MDX Minds – fully functional portal for content delivery
- Developed upon and customised the Open Source CMS, WordPress
