we create value for our clients
who is Coca-Cola Enterprises
Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) is an independent bottler for Coca-Cola products, operating across Europe. They are committed to minimising the environmental impact of their products and operations with a particular focus on sustainable packaging and recycling.
In 2013, CCE needed to demonstrate how their operations directly and indirectly affected the community they operated in and how they were improving operations for sustainable growth and positive change. This required a custom application as the data included was too vast to be easily accessible via print.
why wirebox?
Wirebox has over 15 years of experience making custom applications. We advise clients on how to apply the latest technologies; creating new solutions or improving existing platforms where needed.
CCE wanted a way to convey their community & sustainability impact in a fun, visual and digital way. CCE categorised their work into five different areas, each area had an illustrative file. The information could not be conveyed in print format due to volume and expected reduced engagement from users. Each category file required the users to be able to zoom directly into the different areas within, to view the illustration and gather more information.
Wirebox was instructed to make these printed assets into an interactive virtual digital world where users could browse the different areas of the community and access the information presented without any reduction in print quality or crazy load times.
our approach_
Wirebox embedded Google Maps into the virtual digital world of CCE, utilising an API provided by Google. This functionality allows users to browse quickly throughout the world, click through to the different categories and zoom in and out with the same performance you get with any Google Map in Google’s Chrome browser.
With this approach, content boxes were displayed over the virtual world without any impact on performance. Everything loaded smoothly and instantly in full resolution.
Virtual world design and build requirements
- The design needed to be quick to navigate.
- It needed to display all information clearly.
- It needed to load fast every time.
- It must provide the same information as the printed version.
outcome_
Wirebox created a virtual world that was accurate, quick to load and provided users with an enjoyable interactive interface with the same performance users get when browsing our real-life world on Google’s Chrome browser. There was no performance impact when content boxes were overlaid and everything was displayed in full resolution.
As a result, Wirebox was instructed by CCE to undertake additions to this virtual world in 2014.
This application was built using Google’s API for Google Maps.
