Insights from the Creative Services Summit
Andrew and Ryan from Wirebox and several other local businesses were invited to the Creative Services Summit on Wednesday 25 September 2024 at Sky Studios Elstree. Sky Studios at Elstree is the UK’s newest, state-of-the-art film and TV studio. We were honoured to participate in this event as, across the day, there were various speakers from different businesses and Sky Studios itself to hear from.
About Sky Studios
Sophie Owen Street, VP of Strategy and Business at Sky Studios at Elstree, talked about the Studios and what they provide in support to their clients and the industry. It was really interesting to hear how the whole process works and how production companies like Universal can use the studios for 6 months and employ 1000s of people for projects like the film Wicked. Elstree Studios’ whole ethos is around support, sustainability and wellbeing for the production companies which use the studios and all staff. They provide fabulous facilities on the 30-acre site and endeavour to be a great place to work.
(They also have some pretty amazing decor.)
Sophie went into detail on how they try to help local businesses. She explained what companies like ours would need to do to get recommended for work among the companies which use the studios. She also mentioned the other studios like Pinewood and Leavesden which are local to us in Watford and how the expertise for filming in this area is growing – Is Hertfordshire becoming the new Hollywood?
Other speakers included Peter Livesey, the CEO of Esprit Digital. They design and manufacture indoor and outdoor custom LCD and LED solutions. Seeing some of the latest digital work around the world was a good inspiration for what is possible, especially the lobby in Raffles Doha!
The Summit was an excellent event. We relished the opportunity to meet other businesses and have the chance to talk and gain ideas on how we can get involved more in the creative industries around Hertfordshire.
