about pennies_
Pennies’ digital charity box extension integrates into checkout processes, providing users with the ability to add a small charity donation via a transaction.
Donations are automatically reported to Pennies, and sent to the merchant’s chosen charity. Automated reconciliation reporting allows for a simple settlement process, ensuring that donations reach the nominated charity quickly.
100 million donations have now been made using the digital charity box, and to date, Pennies has raised £25m in much-needed additional income for over 600 charities in the UK, and in the Republic of Ireland.
why pennies chose wirebox_
Pennies have been working with Wirebox for over seven years. Wirebox first supported the Pennies API, and the partnership has grown along with Pennies’ reach ever since.
The Pennies platform has grown from an API, to plugins for some of the most popular commerce systems, such as SalesForce and Magento. The platforms are continuously updated, so Pennies needed to update their plugins for retailers. As Pennies’ technology partner, Wirebox was commissioned to update these plugins.
the project_
Magento 2 was a completely different and new platform, in comparison to the original Magento 1.x.
Originally, Pennies developed a plugin for demandware. Demandware was bought by Salesforce and it was renamed as Salesforce Commerce Cloud. This made the original plugin not work, so it had to be updated to work in the latest Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
Many of the retailers Pennies support are on these platforms, so offering these plugins helps with integrations.
the outcome_
The plugins developed for Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Adobe Magento Marketplace are reviewed by the companies to ensure that they adhere to the development guidelines.
For Salesforce Commerce, we had to use a certified Commerce developer who had passed the relevant exams. The process took over three months to deploy the app on the store.
For Adobe Magento Marketplace, the Adobe team reviewed our app. We had to go through several rounds of changes to ensure that the app would be available on their marketplace.
Our Approach/What We Did
- A stop-gap analysis on what existing plugins did, with changes for new updates.
- A plan to develop and update the plugins.
- Training and certification was required in order to be able to submit the apps.
- Testing the platforms before submission was required for the marketplaces.
